Fashion, Lifestyle, Headshots and Talent Portfolio Sessions:
I customize each session to meet Clients’ needs. We’ll have fun creating your photos at any location of your choosing, whether it be your home, park, dance studio or other places we come up with.  Most sessions average one to three hours.  We can extend the session or reschedule if necessary, at no extra cost.  I will send you a Dropbox gallery so you can view your proofs and share with friends and family, within a week.  We will then review which photo(s) would best meet your needs.  Your satisfaction is my priority!   Following are general guidelines related to preparing for a photo session.  Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to discuss these in detail.

What is a headshot and how is it used?
A headshot is, in most cases, an 8″x10″ photo taken of a model or actor. A headshot commonly encompasses a subject’s head and shoulders, with the focus being almost completely on the subject’s face.  It is essentially a “business card” presented to casting directors or producers who decide whether a person has the right “look” for a particular role in a commercial, movie or TV show.  It is not a “glamour” shot typically used in modeling, but it is intended to market a person “as they are”, accurately and realistically (e.g. look your age).  It is for this reason that you need to update your headshot if you dramatically change your hairstyle/color, grow or trim facial hair (for males), or as you get older (especially for children).

What about cost?
Sessions begin at $60 for a simple (one look) social networking “profile” photo with 4 retouched (edited) photos.  Headshots range up to $300 depending on the number of looks you want to do.  The edited photos will be ready for submitting to websites, agencies, producers, etc. for each change.  Fashion/lifestyle/family sessions (up to 4 hours) involving multiple locations and unlimited changes/themes are $350.  Rates increase for more extensive shoots involving many settings/locations and themes/styles, but will be kept below “market”.   Monthly payment plans are available (upon request) to fit your budget.  Please note that a 30% non-refundable reservation fee is due upon booking a session.  Photos are delivered via Dropbox with high resolution JPEGs.  Prints and other services are extra.  I invite you to review my portfolio gallery to give you a sense of the quality you will be getting.  Clients may pay for services by check or by Credit Card/ Paypal by clicking on the “pay now” button below:

Commercial vs. Theatrical Portraits:
In general, a commercial headshot is a photo where the person is smiling; whereas the subject tends to be more serious in a theatrical headshot.  However, it ultimately depends on the individual who is getting their photos taken.

A commercial headshot is a fun photo used to market you in the commercial market, whether for print work, advertising, commercials and most non-dramatic television work.    Typically these photos are casual in nature and frame the subject smiling; creating a sense of friendliness.   Casting agent, clients, etc. want to see teeth braces or not, to see exactly what they are getting.

A theatrical headshot is a photo used to market you in the theatrical market whether for film, theatre, dance or dramatic television work. Typically these photos frame the subject not smiling, and primarily focus on the overall serious demeanor of the subject. This does not mean you should come across as angry, but confident;  thinking in terms of a character you want to portray will create a “confident” expression. What are the best locations for the photo shoot?
In short, anywhere that is quiet and has some shade is ideal for an outdoor shoot.  I specialize in natural lighting and will only use a simple reflector and fill flash (if necessary) to ensure the best lighting in outdoor locations.  Indoor locations next to a large window can also be great for natural light portraits, as long as there is no direct sunlight shining in.
What should I wear?
Where something you love!  Clothing should be neat, clean (free of stains, lint, hair) and free of wrinkles.  I recommend solid colors with no polka dots, no wild prints, and no distracting stripes.  Clothing of this type can have a tendency to distract the viewer from the most important subject in your photos, you.  Bright colors are ideal for all headshots.  Darker colors work for theatrical photos and vibrant colors are good for casual/commercial portraits.  Specific colors I recommend are “jewel tones” such as burgundy, green, brown, purple, teal, blue and dark red/pink.  It’s usually best to avoid bright reds and oranges.  White should be avoided (unless combined with a darker color).  Please bring several outfits to choose from.
What not to wear for your shoot:
Avoid wearing distracting jewelry or anything that may distract the viewer from your face.  Avoid wearing “costumes”.  Your skills as a performer should allow you to suggest a part without “wearing” a part.
Make-up:
As mentioned above, headshots should be an accurate and realistic representation of “you”, not a glamorized version.  For headshots, you should look good, but without looking like you’re wearing make-up.  This means you should stick to non-mineral “natural” looking make-up, to avoid shining in the photo and avoid heavy eyeliner, eye shadow, lipstick, etc.  Make-up is generally not required for males, unless there is a temporary blemish or two that needs to be hidden.  I do not provide a make-up artist.
Hairstyling:
Hair styles for the shoot should be natural and, again, reflect the “real” you.  Please keep it neat and out the eyes before and during the session.  It is often best to not wash your hair the day before the shoot to avoid “fly-away” hair.
Retouching Images?
Only minor retouching is performed on your portraits.  Keep in mind that the objective is a portrait of the “real” you.  Only temporary skin “flare-ups” that could not be covered with make-up, will be “fixed”.  Blemishes and w
rinkles help define the age you appear, not necessarily your biological age.  You may look older or younger than you are.  Your biological age doesn’t matter.  It’s how you look that does.  As such, these signs of age are an important part of headshots. How long will the session last?
Anywhere from one to two hours depending on the number of garment changes, poses and locations are involved.  I have a relaxed, casual style and do not believe in “rushing” the shoot.  Have a light, healthy meal prior to the session.
What about name titles?
Definitely a must for headshots!  I generally create a white border at the bottom of the image, so your name stands out.  I can integrate your name into the background if you prefer.  You can choose whatever font you like or I can choose for you.  Whatever you prefer.  There is no extra charge for name titles.
